ABERGAVENNY, U.K. – SYNLAB Laboratory Services, part of the SYNLAB Group, today announced that the company has been selected as the successful supplier for The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) after the completion of an open competition for their drug and alcohol testing requirements.
The DVLA is an executive agency of the Department for Transport that is primarily known for issuing driving licenses and organising the collection of vehicle excise duty, also known as road tax.
With 33.6 million people in England alone holding a driver’s license, the DVLA’s Drivers Medical Group (DMG) required a new contract to provide continuity of service for efficient, accurate and confidential screening for drugs of abuse and alcohol to assist in determining an applicant or license holder’s medical fitness to hold a driver’s license.
The initial contract will be for three years with an option to extend up to an additional two years and will go live in September 2020. The contract includes drugs of abuse testing using urine samples and blood alcohol analysis for the alcohol biomarker CDT.
Paul James, Managing Director at SYNLAB Laboratory Services, commented “We are delighted to announce our new contract with the DVLA, which is further testament to the quality of our people, processes and services.”
